Intimate Apparel Buying Guide

Everyone needs something to "sleep" in (I'm not talking about beds).  This type of gift really should be reserved for special events like anniversaries and birthdays or as a special surprise (and only as a secondary gift - there better be something more thoughtful or traditional, like jewelry or flowers given as well).  I would recommend not giving underwear as a gift on a first date or as a holiday gift to be opened in front of groups of people - just makes for bad form.

Where to Start:
Try to start with something classy and traditional.  There really isn't any need to go hard-core on the first shot.  Perhaps you might start with a nice robe (think playful and sexy, not old-man comfortable) or some fun boxers or briefs.  You might move on to something a little more risqué once you've successfully introduced underwear to your gift giving repertoire.

Where to Stop:
Chances are you already have some sort of idea of what type of underwear and fantasy-wear your partner (read snuggle bunny) might like and what might make your partner uncomfortable.  Remember, helping your partner be comfortable is crucial to successful romance.  I'd save the truly risqué stuff for your 5th or 6th gift and only after exploring/discussing possibilities with your mate.

Sizes:
If you're not sure of what sizes will work, you shouldn't be buying this stuff to begin with.  If you really don't know, I'd suggest you focus your attention on getting to know your partner and not on buying gifts.

Gender Equality:
Remember that underwear can be given to a gentleman just as easily as to a gentlewoman.  Try not to get hung up on stereotypes and traditional roles.  I'm not asking my fellow gents to don bras and panties (unless of course that makes you happy) just be open to expanding your horizons beyond white saggy briefs.  This is supposed to be fun.

Where to Shop:
If you're like me, you don't necessarily like spending a great deal of time in "underwear" stores or departments.  Thank goodness for the internet.  Below, for your benefit and mine, I've posted some fine advertisements which link to purveyors of fine gifts.  Have a gander if you'd like - it doesn't hurt to look.
